"The Harlem nutcracker" is just an adaptation of the classic Tchaikovski piece "The Nutcracker". This one is different on severaly key places. For instance this story is told by a grandmother who is reminiscent about her childhood memories. What the piece really strives to do," said Angela Perry, a spokeswoman for the hall, "is to look at the world through the vision of a choreographer who understands the importance of the civil rights movement and to determine its expectations and its impact." The cast of the show includes 25 people. Many of them were born in Harlem themselves.

Several die-hard patrons have taken it upon themselves to see the movie by themselves and buy out all of the tickets in the theater. Most of the patrons are from ages 18-65, but if varies to both extremes with toddlers and 80 year old women. 70% of the patrons were women but there are a few men who went out to see this movie. Most of the women who went out to see "Waiting to Exhale" were African-American.
